1.Are Comic Books an Effective Way to Engage Nonmajors in Learning and Appreciating Science?
According to a study published in the Journal of Microbiology & Biology Education, when biology content was presented in a comic book format, students demonstrated a positive association between their attitudes toward comics and their attitudes toward biology. The researchers concluded that “with regard to student learning, comic book stories lose nothing to traditional textbooks while having the added potential benefit of improving attitudes about biology” (NCBI, 2011).
These findings suggest that comic books can serve as an equally effective, and potentially more engaging, medium for teaching science to nonmajors by enhancing both comprehension and motivation.
